The evening of March 10, 2020, Lauralton Hall announced it needed to close campus due to potential exposure to COVID-19. The next day, online learning was in full operation with classes conducted by video conference following our regular daily schedule.

How did we pivot almost seamlessly? Six prior years of practice during inclement weather closures prepared us by fostering a continuous learning culture at Lauralton. We are blessed with the technology, skilled faculty, motivated students, supportive parents, and determined community that allow academics to thrive during in our online learning program, called “LauraltonatHome.”

During the summer of 2020, our leadership and academic  teams and staff  tirelessly  planned for safely reopening in September in person, on campus, five days a week at full schedule.  Campus reopened September 8, 2020, while we continued to offer students the option to enroll in LauraltonatHome.

We successfully completed  11 weeks on campus  through Thanksgiving break, then  intentionally pivoted the entire school to LauraltonatHome for 14 school days until Christmas break. Online classes resumed for ten school days January 4 – 15, 2021, and we returned to campus January 19, 2021.

While most of our student body has been learning on campus this academic year of 2020-2021, Lauralton continues to offer students the option to enroll in LauraltonatHome on a month-to-month basis.  For more information about LauraltonatHome, please contact our Dean of Academics Jan Powers '75.
