Meet The President
Elizabeth Miller joined Lauralton Hall on July 1, 2017 as President and Head of School.
Most recently, she spent a year hiring faculty and opening a new school for GEMS Education in Dubai (United Arab Emirates). Prior to that, she served as Head of School at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School, an independent, Catholic preK-12 school in St. Louis, MO with an all-girls upper school. Mrs. Miller served on the boards of a local Catholic school and a children’s museum.
Her calling to independent school education began at Pace Academy, Atlanta, GA where she taught American history, world history, Asian history, public speaking, and journalism. She entered administration while at Pace and was recognized with four national independent school education awards. She later moved on to Upper School Head at Hutchison School, an all girls’ independent school in Memphis, TN, where she was recognized as the state’s Administrator of the Year by the Tennessee Scholastic Press Association.
Mrs. Miller began her career in international business where she managed multi-million dollar accounts and conducted business negotiations throughout Asia. She studied Japanese language, culture, and law and holds a Master’s Degree in Asian Studies from Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Prior to that, she graduated summa cum laude from Ohio Wesleyan University, with a B.A. in Journalism and minors in French and Economics Management. As a Presidential Scholar (full-tuition, merit-based scholarship) at Ohio Wesleyan, she developed a deep appreciation for the generosity of donors and their philanthropic work that allowed her to graduate Phi Beta Kappa.
She is active in NAIS (the National Association of Independent Schools) and has completed the Aspiring Heads fellowship funded by EE Ford where she focused on the research of female philanthropic patterns in 2011-2012. Subsequently, Mrs. Miller participated in NAIS’ Institute for New Heads in 2013. She also is a frequent speaker at the NAIS annual conference.
Mrs. Miller is delighted to serve Lauralton Hall and work with the community of students and their families, alumnae and friends of the school, faculty and administrative team, and the Board of Trustees.
