On October 24, 2021, five Lauralton Hall seniors, Meghan Miller, "Cee" (Caroline) Begg, Anika Thite, Abigail Delaney, and Hailey Reed participated in the Fairfield University Hackathon virtual event for high school seniors. These girls study AP Computer Science Principles with Ms. Danielle Kratter.
Using quantitative and qualitative data from the CDC, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and other public sources such as the US Census Bureau, each school's team was tasked with developing an evidence-based digital-first solution that would address the opioid epidemic.
After the 3-hour competition, Lauralton Hall took first place! The team won a cash price of $1,200 divided among the team and $6,000 per student in scholarship money for anyone attending Fairfield University Engineering. Congratulations, Lauralton!
