Celebrating the Class of 2022 - A Transformation from Student to Alumna

On Friday, May 20 Lauralton's Class of 2022, no longer sporting their traditional navy blue jumpers, dressed up in colorful spring attire to celebrate their last day at Lauralton.

In the morning the Seniors gathered in the Chapel for their Alumnae Induction Ceremony. After the Head of School Elizabeth Miller’s welcome address and opening prayer, the Alumnae Auxiliary Chair Mrs. Kathleen Spencer Sargent ’58, addressed the class, noting the important transformation from students to alumnae and reminded the inductees just how deeply Lauralton’s roots run. She stressed that, as Lauralton alumnae, the young ladies will be joining a very special community of more than 8,000 unique, accomplished women. She urged girls to not only seek help from alumnae, as they begin their post- Lauralton lives but also to return that kindness by assisting a future Lauralton graduate someday.

Mrs. Anna Wieciorkowska ’10, a member of the religion department, presented a candle, representing knowledge and enlightenment; a pink carnation, showing pride and beauty of friendship; and an Alumnae Association Certificate, signifying the girls’ induction. The ceremony concluded with Dean of Academics Jan Powers ’75 proclaiming the official induction statement and Director of Counseling Yvonne Fosse-Previs ’90 announcing the singing of the Alma Mater. Nicole Benson-Ayisi ’04, Alumnae Relations & Media Manager, concluded the ceremony as the Chapel bells resounded to officially signal the girls’ entry into the Lauralton alumnae community.

After the indoor ceremony, the young ladies convened outside to plant their class tree – a Weeping Cherry – and to pose for pictures. They later gathered together to share in a special luncheon and yearbook exchange.

At the end of the school day, the Seniors congregated in the back of the Mansion to commemorate their last moments as Lauralton students. Reminiscing over favorite school memories, chatting excitedly about graduation, and sharing future college plans, the girls’ voices rang as they savored their time at the blue picnic tables and then made their way to the Carousel. Just before 2:20 pm, the rest of the Lauralton community joined as the graduating Seniors, some in triumph and some in tears, counted down their last full minute at Lauralton.

Congratulations to the Class of 2022!
