Lauralton celebrates foreign language learning and students’ stellar efforts Posted on Mar 13, 2005
On March 9, Lauralton’s three foreign language honor societies inducted a total of 18 new members during a joint ceremony held in the school auditorium. Alumna Caitlin Sohacki, Class of 2003, opened the program with a delightful and insightful address to the students about the adventures and potential for personal discovery provided by her recent semester abroad in Spain. The evening’s honorees included: for French, Nicole Boggs, Sara Brennan, Melissa Feulner, Kathleen Keenoy, Lauren Murray and Flannery Zimmer; for Latin, Rebecca Battey, Emily Boynton, Margaret Galiani, Theresa Hanley, Colleen Kerrisk, Alyssa Kudlicki and Katie O’Connell; and for Spanish, Tracey Allen, Catherine Caporizzo, Stephanie Dillon, Paula Graham and Victoria Pennick. Immediately following the ceremonies the foreign language clubs hosted the annual International Dinner at which the food was plentiful and delicious. The Spanish Club treated the group to tempting hors d’oeuvre and tasty beverages, the Latin Club members provided very healthy salads, garlic bread, rolls and butter, and le Cercle francais supplied pastries, tarts, cream puffs and other desserts. Parents of the honor society inductees were the special guests and the cafeteria was decorated with student-created posters, signs and Latin sayings, all of which provided a great atmosphere for the feast. Seniors celebrate "100 days to graduation" milestone Posted on Mar 12, 2005
On March 2, the senior class gathered for their 100 Days Dinner. After opening remarks by President Barbara Griffin, Senior Class President Saron Smith-Hardin spoke about the significance of the event. Campus Minister Christine Ring offered grace and a delicious buffet was enjoyed by all. As the seniors finished dinner, letters they had written to each other and to themselves in freshman year were distributed, triggering both emotional and humorous reactions. After the traditional cutting of the cake by the class officers, master hypnotist Dan LaRosa performed his routine to the amazement of the guests. Having passed the “100 days until graduation” milestone, Lauralton’s seniors are beginning to contemplate their bitter/sweet feelings about graduation and all the surrounding activities SADD representatives attend Hartford Youth Summit Posted on Mar 11, 2005

Students inspired by Catholic Schools Week message Posted on Feb 08, 2005
In observance of Catholic Schools Week, on February 3 the students of Lauralton Hall attended an assembly presented by Patty, Cook, RSM. “How beautiful...” sang Sr. Patty, and the students and staff echoed her words till the message resounded throughout the gym, “How beautiful on the mountaintops are the feet of those who bring good news. How beautiful on the city streets are the lips of those who speak of peace.” As a former missionary in Guatemala, Patty Cook, RSM, worked with the young people of Chanmagua, a village of 150 people in the mountains near the city of Esquipulas. Her stories and slides brought to life the poverty of the people to whom she ministered, but more importantly, Sister highlighted the strong faith that fills these people with simple joy in the midst of a hard life. Senior class and Student Council officers helped Sister present a gospel mime prayer in the tradition she learned from the youth group in Guatemala. The students presented Sr. Patty with a Lauralton shirt as well as a promise to sponsor a casual dress day for a mission project of her choice. Sister has asked that part of the monies collected be sent to the village of Chanmagua and part be contributed to the Bible study class for incarcerated women at York Prison. A Sister of Mercy of Connecticut, Sr. Patty “retired” from her position as Director of Lay Ministry for the Diocese of Norwich - and in the true spirit of the daughters of Catherine McAuley, she continues to work for the marginalized, this time as a Pastoral Minister at Niantic Prison.
